Q: I have just been prescribed Suboxone, Lunesta and Catapres. When will the side effects diminsh?
I've just started taking Suboxone and Lunesta and a few hours after I take it, I get really sleepy and I have trouble urinating. I know when taking some medications, that the side effects diminish after you continue taking the medicine for a while. Will these side effects diminish? If so, when? Also, when I take the Lunesta to help me sleep, I have a really bad taste in my mouth, will anything help it? He also prescribed Catapres, but I'm scared to take it. I've never had blood pressure issues. Should I take it? Is it a very strong blood pressure reducer? I have been on Zoloft for years for depression, will it have any effect? I feel great since I started the Suboxone and I want to continue taking it. I just don't want to do something bad to myself. I spent 4 hours in the doctors office when he prescribed these to me, so by the time I was able to see him, I just wanted a prescription and get out of there, so I forgot to ask alot of questions and today the pharmacy is closed.
A: it seems like he's prescribing one drug for the side effects of another drug and so on. I don't think it's healthy to be taking so many drugs. If you're scared to take something then don't do it because your health is nothing to mess around with.
for the bitter taste, it's a side effect and many people experience it. drink a large glass of water with the pill and drink juice in the morning. Other recommendations I have seen here and other places are a small amount of Pure mint oil, tomato juice, and grapefruit juice.
try this link out, I also got some info from there....
Q: i use catapres-tts-2 patch for high blood pressure once a week.the patch leaves a dark spot on my skin (help).
A: the dark spot is probably from the adhesive in the patch, just try simple soap. Otherwise you can talk to your doctor about other forms of treatment, good luck
Q: Is it possible to be side effect free while on several medications?
I've been on medications since I was 15, for bipolar disorder.
Currently I'm on Lamictal, BuSpar, Cymbalta, Restoril, and Catapres. I feel like for over a year now (I've changed many meds over the last 7 years) that I'm experiencing so many side effects, that I can't feel normal.
Is it possible to be on so many medications and not have any serious side effects?
A: Generally speaking, medications that actually do something are going to have side effects. There's no way to be on a number of different medications that actually have physiological effects without experiencing side effects.
Q: you are filling the medication cassettes at your hospital?
and you notice that both Catapres 0.2 mg patch and Clonidine 0.1 mg tablets have been ordered for a patient in the ICU. under what circumstances might these medications be used together?
A: Same drug. Forseeable that the patient was ordered 0.3 mg and the pharmacy doesn't stock it.
Could have been a dose or route change and the old dose should be removed by the pharm tech.
Or someone goofed and loaded the wrong stuff.
Q: Folks, my step-son is 15yrs old and has a 'tic' disorder?
He has been to the neurologist, tested for tourettes syndrome and the test came back negative. He said "He will out grow it by the time he is 13" and prescribed catapres. I do not remember the dosage. Every once in awhile, the "tic" comes back, lasts for a few days then goes away. He has had it for about a month now, is seeing a GP today, unfortunately at school he is known as "The Twitch". Obviously, the neurologist was wrong, I warned his dad he will never out grow it. He stopped the medication when I believe he was 10. Vocal and shaking of head and shoulders, the disorder continues. Any safe meds for a 15 year old to "control" this? Thanks
A: I think he VERY well might have Tourette's. I was diagnosed with it. Besides Clonidine (Catapres), there's another medication, called HALDOL-Haloperidol. Maybe he can try the Haldol.
Q: This question is for doctors - and its very urgent?
what happens if i take 100 catapres 150 mg tablets at a time?
i am using only 1 tab of catapres 150mg at bet time for my hypertension. please tell me in deatils.
A: My friend, as and when we are destined to depart from the world, it will happen and it can happen without notice. Please do not, i repeat DO NOT contemplate such routes. You may end up messing up your life even further; at this point of time it is only your kidney which is not functioning. Why do you want to add more physical and medical problems to your already challenged body?
AS SOMEONE HAS ALREADY WRITTEN, DO SOMETHING GOOD; YOU ARE AN ABLE PERSON AND HAVE SOME GOOD QUALITIES AND ABILITIES; TILL THE CALL COMES, MAKE THE BEST USE OF IT FOR YOURSELF AND FOR THE BENEFIT OF OTHERS IN YOUR NEIGHBOURBOOD, FAMILY AND SOCIETY AT LARGE.
Q: Low pulse rate on an elderly person?
Hi everyone. My grandma is 102 yrs. and today I took her blood pressure very early in the morning and although the pressure is normal, her pulse rate was 37. Is it too dangerous for her age? She is on Catapres and Norvasc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
A: Hmm. I don't think there is not enough reason to panic... yet. Just want to know a few things, though.
1. Is she having an abnormal Blood Pressure reading?
2. What is the dosage of Norvasc and Catapress?
You see, when you're on these drugs, which are antihypertensives, then you tend to have low pulse rate and blood pressure readings. As long as the blood pressure remains above 80/60, she should be alright, although I am not sure because I lack some data. Try asking your health care provider. ^_^
Q: Is my ADHD drug making me sleepy?

A: You are taking quite a bit of medication. Please let your doctor know how you are feeling. You may need to have the dose adjusted. I hope you will be feeling better. Take Care.

thx in advance...
A: Hmmm...seems a bit advanced for your very first case study.
Here's a bit of help (you really should do your own homework, it is the only way you will learn!)
First...do you know the medical terms you listed?
nephropathy: a disease dealing with the kidneys;
NIDDM: a diabetic who does not use insulin to control their blood glucose levels
HPN: hypertension: high blood pressure
Obviously, the biggest problem this pt has is with his kidneys. Burinex is a loop diuretic...gets rid of excess fluid by acting on the kidney; The forgram & zithromax are both antibiotics; Buscopan is a pain and spasm reliever used for abdominal pain. Obviously, the catheter keeps urine from accumulating in the bladder; Lab tests for Na , K+, BUN, and creat. are all to check function of the kidney (esp. BUN and creatinine). The measuring of urine output gives an idea how well your treatment is working. The catapres is for the high bp, which is always made worse by kidney problems.
Obviously, you see that the doc is monitoring the blood glucose level of the pt carefully, since they are NIDDM.
This should get you started.
Q: 4 Antihypertensives meds and still has a high BP??? 200/120?
I have a sister who is 32 years old, is 5'7'' and weighs 233 in which she recently lost about 70 pounds within a year. She has hypertension and she is taking Catapres 0.2 mg, Metoprolol, Lisinopril and HCTZ everyday and some she takes 3 times a day. Today she went for a routine check up since about a couple months and her BP was 200/120. The doctor sent her to ER and they monitored her BP and it was going up to 210/134. Initially i thought ok white coat hypertension. But then she told the doctor that her systolic BP doesnt go below 190 she checks is regularly. They gave her Catapres 2mg and also something IV in which i dont remember. She is also a smoker in which she started smoking this year. She has no symptoms no headaches, dizziness, blurry vision. I am convinced her BP wont go down due to smoking. But besides smoking what could also be the reason for FOUR antihypertensives meds not help BP go down??? shes also unemployed so i guess that adds stress but her BP is extremely high
A: needs CT scan for pheochromocytoma, renal studies/damage or cardiac angioplasty. Needs potassium checked and other electrolytes. Needs diet/nutrition consult/ salt intake?
stop smoking, HBP doesn't have symptoms, it's the silent killer.
Still needs to lose wt, smoking/nicotine is an appetite suppressant, initially. later, years later, it catches up with you, gain wt anyway. check thryoid.
can search some info under mayoclinic.com or nih.gov
She needs some help, obviously, the meds aren't working.
Q: ADHD medications?
My son has ADHD and has been diagnosed by a child ADHD specialist at Westmead Children's hospital. I would like to make a quick note to all those FOOLS who think that once a child has been diagnosed with ADHD that the very first prescription the child is given is Ritalin, they are ABSOLUTELY INSANE. The first prescription my child received was Catapres not Ritalin. What do you think I'm nuts? I'm not going to give my child Ritalin. Also can people please refrain from posting links to ritalin induced websites. I already know not to give it to my kid! I already know the side-effects of it. I would rather chop off all my limbs before even considering giving it to them. I have read the book called 'Understanding ADHD' by Dr. Christopher Green and Dr. Kit Chee . I also watched a dvd by Dr. Christopher Green, which explains it all in lamens terms. (plenty of coffee, hahaha)
A: I'm not sure what your question is...
Anyhow, gluten free/casein free diets work wonders. Google it and you'll find a ton of info. Within 2 months of removing all gluten and dairy products from my son's diet he was a completely different kid. He's not even on medication and his behavior is under control just with that diet. Also, a lot of kids with adhd-like behavior are found to be magnesium deficient. Try this stuff... http://vitanetonline.com/description/VY0017/vitamins/Natural-Calm-Kids-Calm/ You should be able to get it at any health food store if you're in the US. Not sure about other countries.
Smart move avoiding Ritalin. When I was in high school kids used to sell their Ritalin to other kids because it had the same effect as street meth! I don't know a mother on the planet who would feed meth to her child but for some reason people think Ritalin is ok. Scary.
Q: Why Am I Short? Please Help?
Okay. I am 17 years old. I weigh 78kgs and I am 180cm tall.
My biological father is approx 6 foot 8
And my mum is about 5ft8 but she is asian and she is tall for an asian
So why am I only 180cm? I wanna be 6ft8 like my dad!
I used to take a number of drugs as a child like the following:
Ritalin
Concerta
Catapres
Dex Amphetamin
Tofinil
I also have protein S Deficiency (if that contributes to ma shortness?)
I stopped taking all ma medication about 11 months ago.
Am i always going to be short? When will I get taller? What will my approx height be?
A: 5'11 isn't short. just feel lucky that you are not as tall as your dad. being too tall has its perks, it makes you look really skinny and weird and 5'11 i'd say would be a perfect height. In fact you are taller than the average individual (5 feet 9.2 inches). Be happy with who you are :) Oh yea and i can't believe the idi0ts here who are selling out their short stories to a guy who ISN'T SHORT! stop saying "i was short too and i was fine" and "oh its okay to be short" because he's not short! Stop making him feel bad 5'11 is a perfect height.
Q: Is Tourette's Syndrome hereditary?
I have mild tourette's...mostly motor, not much vocal anymore. i take clonidine/catapres and it works pretty well...used to side effects (sleepyness, weight gain, etc). but is it truly hereditary? everywhere i read, it always says that tourette's is genetic...but no one in my family has it unless it came from 5+ generations back! i have a partial-cousin (mom's cousin's son) with Autism, a cousin with ADHD, and another cousin had a tic but used the patch for maybe a year and it went away forever. this is all on one side of my family...i think my dad's brother has bipolar disorder maybe..i saw it on family history when i was snooping in my medical records. is it possible for tourettes not to be directly hereditary, but an abnormality that randomly may occur??
A: No it is not hereditary. At most, a constitutional predisposition to neurosis might be present, but even that might lead to something other than Tourette's Syndrome. The experts, so called, tell you up front that there is no known cause for it. The neurologists somberly explain that it is a neurological disorder, but the scientists who have gone to the trouble to decipher the psychological meaning behind the embarrassing symptoms are the psychoanalysts.
So far the evidence for neurological causes is absent. All that's left are theoretical constructs. The conflicting constructs of the neurologists and psychoanalysts are competing to see which paradigm explains all possible related phenomena--including the connection with traumatic infantile illness. So far the psychoanalysts are ahead in that regard.
