Q: Differences bewtween BENICAR 20 mg and AVAPRO 150 MG?
I would like to know the differences between benicar 20 mg and Avapro 150 mg.
or Is Avapro 150 mg euivalent or less strength drug compared to Benicar 20 mg in order to control blood pressure.
A: Both drugs are antihypertensives of the class "angiotensin II receptor antagonists". They're pretty much equivalent drugs.
You can't compare drugs simply by the # of milligrams.
Q: Is diovan hct similar to benicar?
I take diovan hct 160mg but dr's office ran out. The nurse (doctor was not in) gave me benicar 40mg instead. I won't take it until I speak w/doc or pharmacist but wondering if anyone knows for sure if these two drugs are similar enough for me to just switch overnight. Thanks!
A: They are in the same class of meds, called "ARBs". However, you need to check with the doc or pharmacist about the dose.
On a side note, the nurse probably shouldn't have made the switch without the approval of an MD/DO/PA/NP.
Q: I have high blood pressure and upon taking Benicar, Diovan, etc my pressure increases.?
A: I had tons of trouble with my blood pressure. The Dr. would put me on something and a few weeks later it was sky high again. I think I was on every blood pressure medicine on the market. Finally I switched to a different Dr. I asked him if there was anyway he could get my blood pressure down and keep it down longer than a few weeks. He told me about a new medicine out. Said they had good results with it so far so I tried it. It's called Hyzaar 50-2.5 and I have been on it for about 9 years and no problems.Ask your Dr. if you are a candidate for Hyzaar. It's the only thing that worked for me.
Q: my blood pressure is 130/90, should I eat benicar?
A: With only your best interest in mind...
Did your doctor prescribe it for you?
If so, what was your blood pressure in the doctor's office?
Are you checking your blood pressure on a digital device?
How old are you?
Do you have a heart condition? Do you have diabetes?
Do you have a doctor? You can call your doctor's office and pose this question to them. A nurse should call you back with an answer to this question. 130/90 isn't bad, but strangers don't know anything about you and I would not seek medical advice from people who don't know anything about you.
Q: I take Benicar every night for high blood pressure (Just started taking it 2 months ago)?
But it seems that everyday about 4:30-5:00pm I start getting the worst headaches and feel horridly tired ..could that be the benicar wearing off.. or something. I never had headaches before I started taking the medicane .. so it's unusually
well can't sleep at 5pm... I'm still at work.. and I'm not a drinker..
A: possible side effects so why don't you sleep during these hours so that while the medicine works in your body, your brain won't be affected much and also see a doctor to see what is the problem or maybe you are taking alcohol too ^_^
Q: Is tenitis a side effect of the drug Benicar?
A: "tenitis"?? Do you mean tinnitus (ringing in the ears)? If so, I think the answer is "No".
Q: Blood Pressure and Benicar?
I was recently put on Benicar 40mg for blood pressure of 164/100, its been one month now and with exercise and diet along with Benicar 40mg once a day my blood has fallen to as low as 95/50. I feel no side affects of low blood pressure, but at times I feel a little dizzy upon standing. Is my blood pressure to low now?
A: Low blood pressure, also called hypo-tension, would seem to be something to strive for. However, for many people, low blood pressure can cause symptoms of dizziness and fainting or mean that they have serious heart, endocrine or neurological disorders.
Severely low blood pressure can deprive the brain and other vital organs of oxygen and nutrients, leading to a life-threatening condition called shock.
Although blood pressure varies from person to person, a blood pressure reading of 90 millimetres of mercury or less systolic blood pressure or 60 mm Hg or less diastolic blood pressure is generally considered low blood pressure.
Generally 120/80 is considered normal blood pressure,95/50 is considered low blood pressure, also called hypo-tension.
The causes of low blood pressure can range from dehydration to problems with the way your brain signals your heart to pump blood. It's important to find out what's causing your low blood pressure so that it can be properly treated by your doctor.
Take care as always!
Q: Are there other drugs in the Benicar & Lipitor class that are generic?
A: Benicar (olmesartan) is in the class of angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB's). They are used for hypertension. The only generic available I believe is Cozaar (losartan).
Generally these drugs are interchangeable and can be titrated to effect.
As for Lipitor (atorvastatin) the only generic is Mevacor (lovastatin). Zocor (simvastatin) and Pravachol (pravastatin) generics have just been approved by the FDA (June 23, 2006 and April 24, 2006 respectively).
There ARE differences though among "statins" as to their potency. Lipitor is one of the strongest statins while Mevacor was the first one out there and also the weakest. Zocor is a middleweight. Pravachol is kind of between Zocor and Mevacor. Of course, you have dose limits so you cannot just keep taking more and more Mevacor to get the same activity as Lipitor.
See the following chart for a comparison.

Good luck. Generics do save consumers and the health-care system a lot of money.

Benicar is an angiotensin receptor blocker or 'ARB". The HCT is hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic.
Q: effect of benicar on kidneys?
Will benicar cause the creatine levels to increase?
A: Right on the packaging there is a warning about taking this drug and renal disease
Q: I started taking benicar 40 mm for high blood presure and my hair started falling out is this commom?
A: hair loss is uncommon with benicar, see your doctor to look for other reasons, good luck
Q: How long are these side effects supposed to last on this medication?
This is a revision of my previous question. I have been taking Benicar HCT for well over a year. I have occassional dizziness and drowsiness. (I know that it is from this medication because it says so on the side of the bottle.)
How long are these side effects suppose to last?
If I'm supposed to have these for the duration of the treatment, is there a way to lessen their effects?
A: With regards to dizziness, it has been my observation of my own response that there are two different conditions. One is almost always postural and is benign. Being attentive to the possibility of dizziness, light-headed, fainting, and blacking out with change of position plus insuring adequate hydration and some salt intake is usually all that is necessary.
If you salt your food to taste and eat any processed foods, you should be getting enough sodium.
Some folks have reported they were able to increase their very low blood pressure by increasing their fluid intake (6-8 cups per day of any fluids is usually enough) to maintain adequate hydration and increasing their salt intake. Foods that are canned, pickled, processed or cured are high in salt. You can also drink 1/4 tsp of salt in a large glass of water to increase sodium.
Also, I would strongly advise you to stay away from Gatorade for I do not recommend the use of Gatorade or similar products. Even the ones that are low in sugar contain extra potassium which you may not need.
