Q: Should I start my Effexor XR again?
I haven't taken my Effexor XR in three days because I went on vacation and forgot them. I wanted to wean myself off from them anyways. I have not had any major side effects and am feeling ok. Has anyone else ever stopped cold turkey and been successful?
I was prescribed this medication primarily for hot flashes and other peri-menopausal symptoms after having an ovary removed. I had mild depression.
Also, I am only on 75 mg daily. It is not a high dosage.
A: If you do not have any side effects in 3 days, it's probably ok now. Are you using it for anxiety, depression?
Q: How difficult is it to get off effexor xr?
I HAVE TAKING EFFEXOR XR FOR ABOUT 13 YEARS, I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN I MISS A DOSE THAT I SEEM TO HAVE SOME KIND OF WEIRD FEELINGS IN MY HEAD.
A: It's not that difficult under physician supervision. You must titrate down, taper down slowly over months.
Q: Tapering off Effexor XR: How can I stop the brain shivers?
I am tapering off 37.5 of effexor XR. I was taking every other day then opening up the capsules ad dumping out 1/2 of it. I have not taken anything in three days and I am irritatble and the brain shivers are terrible. Is there anything natural I can take? I am so crabby at my kids. I want off this stuff. I am also on 150 Wellbutrin xl
A: unfortunately your just going into have to ride it out should only last 3 4 days and i was on it too and i now how it feels
Q: anyone take effexor xr, how did it work for you?
I am switching from zoloft to effexor xr for slight depression, anxiety, etc. Wondering anything you can tell me about your results?
A: I've been taking Effexor XR for about five years now. It's working very well for depression and helping me have fewer Migraines. One thing my doctor warned me about, and I found to be very true, is that I have to take it in the morning. If I take it past noon, I have trouble sleeping. Best of luck to you.
Q: Can I change over from Effexor XR to Cymbalta without having withdrawal symptoms?
If I go 2 days w/o my Effexor XR I get dizzy spells and now I'm going to start Cymbalta so I'm wondering if they are similar enought that The dizzy spells won't happen.
A: cymbalta can be tricky.. i am wondering what your mgs are.. but it can cause dizzy spells as well as a host of other things.
Use w/ caution!
Q: Can I switch from the Effexor XR 75 to the generic regular 75 in one dose a day without side effects? ?
I have been taking Effexor XR 75mg for about 3 months, the pharmacist told me generic Effexor 75 mg was the same, besides the extended release part. My worry is the effect it would have to take the 75 mg in one dose with a quicker release in my system.
I'm out of the XR pills and would need to start on the regular tomorrow, please advice.
Thanks
THANKS ELLE FOR YOUR ANSWER, AND THAT IS BASICALLY MY WORRY, THAT IS THE SAME Mg BUT IN ONLY ONE DOSE.
A: It should be the same. Switching from extended release to taking multiple pills instead presents slight problems for some people. But your pharmicist shouldn't be recommending anything that is that different. When they recommend a generic it is generally the same thing.
Q: How long until Effexor XR kicks in?
My DR switched me from Lexapro to Effexor XR 150 MG. How long does it usually take to start working? I'm taking it for severe anxiety and slight depression. I've been taking it for about a week so far.
Thanks for the info about the withdrawals. I looked into it and I think I can handle it. I'm so crazed with anxiety right now, its destroying my life. So if this helps, it will be marvelous. I'll have to deal with the w/d when its time to get off it.
A: yeah, try to be patient, it might take up to 6 weeks to kick in, you'll be alright though...hang in there ;)
when you go off, just make sure you are weaned off, do not ever go cold-turkey!
Q: Can taking Effexor XR and Oxycontin be bad for you?
I have been on Effexor XR for about 2 weeks now for depression/anxiety and I was just wondering if taking Oxycontin or any other opiates like it can cause a bad reaction..???
A: Yes, Effexor XR will multiply the effect of the narcotic, result in unconsciousness and possibly death. This goes for alcohol, too. Do not use without consulting a physican first.
Q: After withdrawing off Effexor Xr is stomach problems a cause from the withdrawal?
A few days after going off Effor Xr under doctors care I devloped stomach upset, gurgling in stomach area and discomfort. Is this a sympton occuring from the withdrawal?
A: Effexor is the worst of these antidepressants from which to withdraw. 78% of people showed withdrawal within something like 8 days.
Most of the serotonin in your body is located in the digestive system (about 90%) - upon which the drug acted.
All sorts of digestive upsets and problems are therefore standard withdrawal (and side-effect) symptoms. You may also experience odd 'lump in the throat' sensations.
Q: How much Effexor XR are you taking?
After a lengthy interview, my new doc switched me from 20mg Paxil to 150mg Effexor XR (extended release) daily. There was a two-week ramp-down/ramp-up transition, but now that I'm at full dosage, I feel like my brain is redlining in 6th gear. Has anyone else experienced this? Is 150mg considered a normal dosage for a moderate (occasionally severe) anxiety disorder? I'm thinking about calling him to ask if I can decrease it to 75mg.
A: I take 2 x 150mg capsules a day for moderate depression and anxiety. I was on 75mg but felt no change in moods. I was on 150mg and had slight change. I think you should wait it out. Everytime I changed dose I felt 'weird' and lethargic and like my brain couldn't flow. But after about a week, my mindset had improved. Hang in there...
Q: Anyone taking Effexor XR and experiencing memory loss or hair loss?
I have been taking Effexor XR for 2 years now and I take 150 mg once a day. I noticed in the past couple months I am experiencing severe short term memory loss and some more hair loss than the usual shedding.
I forget what I'm saying in the middle of saying it. I often do things twice or not at all because I thought I did it. I forget words or names that I know really well. I am about to tell someone something and I forget it within seconds.
Anyone else experience this? What did your doctor say about it? Ughh I hate changing meds but I think I'm going to have to.
PS: I'm 25 years old.
A: Talk to your doctor. I work in the field and never heard of that... Do you take anything else or have you been overstressed?
Q: Can Effexor xr affect ability to orgasm?
I'm on 150 mg of Effexor xr and since I started taking it my sex drive has increased and I want to have sex more. This is a weird effect. However I can't seem to orgasm in the same way that I used to be able to. Can anyone tell me if this is normal and what to do about it?
A: straight from their own site. 4th side affect is sexual.
In depression studies, common side effects included nausea, dizziness, sleepiness, sexual side effects, sweating, dry mouth, nervousness, insomnia, loss of appetite, and constipation.
Men taking Effexor XR may experience delayed ejaculation. Studies have shown, however, that only about 3% of people taking Effexor XR for depression experienced decreased sexual desire.
most antidepressants unfortunantly cause sexual (as well as other) side effects. it's a matter of which side affects u will tolerate. if this is a big problem for u, u may have to ask ur doc to switch u to a different med.
Q: What do you think of effexor xr im on the 75 mg?
I really dont see much change with this i was on lexapro the 20mg pill but stopped working im mainly on these pills for irritablity, but im not reallyt liking this effexor i feel like im more moody than usual, so who has taken it and what did you think of it how has it affected you or helped you.
A: I've actually taken both of the medications you have mentioned, effexor and lexapro. Right now I am not on any medication anymore yet I found that the effexor was not effective for me.
To be honest, I only took the medication for a short amount of time but I didn't really feel like it did anything for me. I know that for many people they "claim" it works wonders for anxiety but for anything else I am really not sure how effective it is.
I thought lexapro worked well for my depression at the time and it seemed that it got into your system quickly, meaning that you didn't have to wait two weeks for it to take effect like most anti-depressants.
Overall, I think everything depends on the person and what they are personally dealing with as you probably know. Definitely discuss this with your doctor because different medications work for different people.
Q: I am in the process of weaning myself off of some of my Effexor XR and completely off of Zyprexa. Ideas?
I was taking 450mg of Effexor XR every morning and 2.5mg Zyprexa at night. Because i have a child on the way i wanted to be able to function at night (up until now i slept like a brick). I would continue on the Effexor, but my Phychiatrist stated that I would enter a manic episode if I didn't wean from the Effexor first. I partially followed his advise to cut my Effexor dose to 300mg morning and completely stopped Zyprexa. This has been my regimen for the last few days and I am now starting to feel the brutal withdrawal effects of Effexor. I don't want to go off of Effexor completely, but would like to maybe work down to 150mg in the future. Any ideas of when these flu-like symptoms may subside? I am sweating and my body feels like it is very shaky. Thanks bunches for your advise and God bless.
A: Talk to your doctor. Withdrawal sucks.
