Q: cipralex...................................?
as cipralex puts weight on people who take this do they eat more or is it the actual tablet that makes you put the weight on
A: Its a bit of both, it confuses the body, by making you feel more hungry you naturally put weight on because your eating more, but if you ignore the hunger your body will start storing fat reserves because it thinks its starving and so you store more fat to use later.
The way to combat it is to drink more, and have plenty of snack foods nearby that are healthy like fruit and cereal bars or breakfast cereal. Easy to eat and minimal preparation as your going to want to eat right away. Have plenty more water as hydration is important and your body easily confuses thirst with hunger.
The other thing to bear in mind is although its a common side effect to put weight on, but it also can cause you to lose weight as well. Not everybody will get the side effect and you may even end up having no weight changes at all.
If your concerned about weight changes then doing a health and nutrition plan with your doctor to monitor any changes may help you to stay on top of your health.
Q: Cipralex???
Does anybody take the above anti-depressant associated tablet? If so, have you experienced any weight gain?
A: I've been on it for about 3 years now and there's no problem with weight-gain. It was prescribed to me as it had better anti-anxiety properties than prozac so perhaps you need to talk to your doc. It may not be providing the right balance.
Q: Can Cipralex effect a decrease of sexual affection?
I've been on Cipralex for about three months now and I have almost completely lost the normal sexual arousal that I used to have before. Is it normal?
A: yes alot of meds can effect sex drive, sad enough it is a crappy effect, some are worse than others but it depends on your what you are taking them for if it out weighs the problem, but most people find that once they have taken them for a while the side effects subside
Q: Are there any symptoms that come with stopping Cipralex?
I've been taking the lowest dose of Cipralex for anxiety, and for circumstances beyond my control, I haven't had any in about 5 days. Do any side effects generally appear when you first come off SSRIs? I had an episode of feeling jittery yesterday and have had inexplicable dizziness today. I'm just wondering if these can be contributed to stopping the pills.
If it makes any difference, neither of these symptoms are common to my anxiety attacks.

Q: Is there a drug out there that is stronger than Cipralex but cheaper?
I've been using Cipralex for about 3 months now. They work, but I really feel I need something stronger. I pay about $50 for Cipralex that keeps me about 3 weeks. I'd just like to know what are the other options? I know, Ill see my doctor about it, I just need to know about a few before I do
A: Citalopram is similar, not stronger, but it is generic and considerably less expensive. Here in the states it is often found on the $4 generic lists. Cipralex is the brand name for "escitalopram" which is just the active half of citalopram.
Q: What is the purpose of taking Wellbutrin XL with Cipralex?
I'm trying to figure out what the interaction is or why I've been told to take both, for anxiety/depression. I would like to stop taking the Cipralex, but I'm not sure if it's crucial to my treatment.
A: Bupropion (Wellbutrin, Wellbutrin SR, Wellbutrin XL) is used to treat depression. Bupropion (Wellbutrin XL) is also used to treat seasonal affective disorder (SAD; episodes of depression that occur in the fall and winter each year). Bupropion (Zyban) is used to help people stop smoking. Bupropion is in a class of medications called antidepressants. It works by increasing certain types of activity in the brain.
Escitalopram is used to treat depression and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD; excessive worry and tension that disrupts daily life and lasts for 6 months or longer). Escitalopram is in a class of antidepressants called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It works by increasing the amount of serotonin, a natural substance in the brain that helps maintain mental balance.
Bupropion is an effective antidepressant on its own but it is particularly popular as an add-on medication in the cases of incomplete response to the first-line SSRI antidepressant.
Consult your doctor or a pharmacologist.
Bupropion (generic name) Wellbutrin XL (brand name) and Escitalopram (generic name) Cipralex (brand name).

I have been taking cipralex now for approx 8 months and have just decided to have another baby we want to start trying straight away i have decided i dont want to take Cipralex anymore and have been weaning myself off them i want to know how long does it stay in system and will it effect preg or our attempts to try and conceive

Q: Gastrointestinal side effects starting a year after being on cipralex?
I have been on cipralex ( 10 mg) for over a year without much in the way of side effects. But for the past 3 months I've been having an array of quite severe gastrointestinal problems.
Is this common with cipralex?
Thanks for the input. I have actually been to my GP AND a gastroenterologist, neither of whom mentioned any connection between my symptoms & cipralex. But since a bunch of tests & ultrasounds aren't showing anything else, I'm suspicious.
It was actually a naturopath who suggested a possible connection. I hate to stop the cipralex because it really has helped re-stabilize my life. I wonder about reducing even further to 5 mg?
I understand that cipralex has the least in the way of side effects, so it doesn;t seem that switching to another SRRI would help a a lot.
A: Cipralex contains the active ingredient escitalopram, which is well known for causing nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. I was on citalopram for over 8 months and suddenly started to experience severe nausea. This went on for 3 months. Eventually they took me off it and within 72 hours the nausea had stopped. I know also that certain painkillers can interact with these drugs, and cause mild bleeds within the stomach. If your stools are really dark, and you are taking painkillers, I would go and see your Doctor. Also, there is a misconception that side effects only occur at the start of treatment. This is not always the case and can happen at any time. Check out mednet on google for more information, and get an appointment with your Doctor anyway. Good luck.
Q: Can someone compare the sexual side effects of Cipralex compared to Citalopram? I find the latter to be bad.?
I have found the sexual side effects of Citalopram to be devastating. I have an extremely difficult time reaching orgasm/climax/ejaculation but have no problem with erection. I have lost interest in masturbation and gone from nightly masturbation to once every ten days or so. Does anyone know if this side effect is less strong with the new Cipralex which my doctor has switched me over to? Thanks!
A: I am a female with a very health sexual appitite and with the Citalopram I found that it did the same thing to me. I tried the Cipralex for about a month but I had gained so much weight that they switch me to Trazodone but when I was on the Cipralex I did find that I had gotten some of the drive back not all and even with what I'm on now its better but I feel like I just have to deal with it. A little is better then none at all.
Q: can i Take prozac and cipralex at the same time?
if i take prozac alone it doesnot give good relief .nd if i take cipralex i feel very good ,but i gain weight.where is i take prozac ,with it ,it stops my graving for food.
A: I'm glad you feel very good when you take cipralex. However, weight gain is a very common problem with this med.
I have met many people with depression and related mood disorders at a weekly support group I attend. Prozac and cipralex are very similar medications (called SSRIs). I don't recall every meeting anyone taking two SSRIs at the same time. However, this combo MIGHT work. I suggest talking it over with your doctor.
I am on 4 medications for major depression, so drug combos are common in complicated cases. By the way, prozac usually does not cause weight gain, so that is probably the reason that cipralex increases your weight, but prozac does not.
Another possiblity is combining cipralex with wellbutrin. This med is an antidepressant that usually causes many folks to lose weight ! Of course, your MD will have to be the final judge on whether this combo makes sense.
Q: How long can you take an ASRI like Cipralex for?
It's helped me wonders so far, I have a social life, have motivation and energy, and I'm actually happy for the first time in about 4 years (I'm 19). Would my doctor approve me staying on this for a long term?
A: I have been on mine for 14 months now
you will eventually have to come off them, but the doctor will make sure you are stable 1st
Q: How long do side effects of lexopro- cipralex sexual- tiredness take to go away when starting .?
I have been on 5 mg for 8 day and am tired and having sexual side effects.
A: Talk to your dr.
Q: its been 22 days since i use cipralex but i dont feel any different?
yeah i dont feel any single bit different except delayed ejacuation. nothing about my mood has changed. when should it suppose to kick in to my mood?
A: Hello from a fellow Lexapro/Cipralex user. It took me a couple of weeks to notice even small changes, but in about a month I suddenly realized things seemed better. However, everyone is different, and things like dosage, physical condition, mental issues, diet and other medicines can affect the way drugs work on you. To quote one site, "In clinical studies, many patients treated with Lexapro began to feel better within 1 to 2 weeks, although the full effect may take 4 to 6 weeks."
You've mentioned delayed ejaculation, but I've noticed other side effects, such as Insomnia, dry mouth and diarrhea. I've had to take Trazodone (100mg x 2) every night just to get some sleep, but I'm still satisfied enough with the Lexapro to stick with it.
If any of these become a problem, there are a host of other SSRI meds your doctor can prescribe. However, almost every drug has some side effects, so it may take you some time to find the right fit for you.
Hope this helps. :)
Q: Anyone taken Cipralex for anxiety or generalized anxiety ?
Any side effects short term or long term ? How effective is it ? Should I start on it ?
A: By far, the most effective method of dealing with anxiety is not a drug. It's Dr. David Burns' mood therapy. Read more in one of his books. Here's one example aimed specifically at anxiety: http://www.amazon.com/When-Panic-Attacks-Drug-Free-Anxiety/dp/0767920716
Please keep in mind that NO drug has EVER cured ANY mental disorder... never will either.
